BTS RM Leaps To Recordsetting No. 3 Position On Billboard 200 With Solo Album
SEOUL — K-pop sensation BTS, RM has peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, setting a record for a solo K-pop artist.
His debut solo album, Indigo, debuted at number 15 on the charts on December 17 and fell the following week. But physical album sales put it back on the charts.
He is the first member of BTS to reach the top 10 of the Billboard 200 with a solo album, the second member to reach No. 17 with a solo project in 2022 and the debut of J-Hope's debut studio album. Possible: According to Billboard, the box set is slated for a July release.
BTS has had seven top 10 songs, six of which reached number one.
RM's Indigo re-entered the Billboard 200 at #3 with 83,000 album-equivalent points (+1,290%) following the CD release on December 16.
Billboard noted, "This marks a new high for the group and RM's first top 10 album for a solo artist."
It was also the highest-charting song by a South Korean artist, according to Yonhap News Agency.
K-pop girl group TWICE Nayeon held onto their previous record, which they recorded in July when their debut solo EP, Im Nayeon, peaked at No. 7 on the charts.
Indigo was released on December 2nd and topped the iTunes charts in 87 countries. It was included in Time magazine's list of the best K-pop songs and albums of 2022.
The album is like a diary that reveals the artist's interests and thoughts and showcases his collection through collaborations with different musicians.
The 28-year-old RM has already released two mixtapes, RM in March 2015 and Mono in October 2018.
The former was included in American music magazine Spin's 50 Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2015. The latter peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200. The Korea Herald/Asia News Network
