Welcome to Fan Chant, a weekly column for K-pop fans, geeks and newbies. Every week, I will be posting interviews, lists, and a variety of content to introduce you to our closest and best friends in Seoul and beyond. Also don't forget to subscribe to my partners mailing list.
December always seems like a good time to reflect on the passing year, and as our annual report continues to be released, 2018 will be the year of the year. I think of the joys and wonders of being a K-pop fan in 2022. It launched in August and it's been a lot of fun to have a dedicated place to record the week's news and announcements, and I'm excited to continue expanding interviews and behind-the-scenes content in 2023. I wanted to put together some of my favorite music interviews and reviews this year, especially K-pop. In January, the stars aligned. I was in LA and I was invited to the forum by a group I had heard about but was not called ATEEZ. I left the stage in complete shock from the whole world. A few days later, I spoke to the team and realized it was over for me.
The first (but not the last) time I met Stray Kids was in March. Although I was introduced to their music in 2020, it was the first time I saw their dynamic in conversation. I haven't seen them in action yet. Atlanta ticket holders, I hear you, but it's always good to set goals. 2023 looks bright.
With summer approaching, BTS announced their PROOF almanac album, which also includes the new track "Det to Come", which usually makes me cry in the first few weeks after its release. Anyway, I was in Madrid shortly after that covering the Mad Cool festival and thought J-Hope had a few minutes to talk about his new solo album Jack in the Box , if I'm interested. It was the last night of a five day festival and I was exhausted, but you better believe I got out of bed at 3am in a hotel in Spain and went on Zoom to talk to him. I spent the rest of the year gassing myself thinking it didn't happen because my mind couldn't connect things.
Later that month, I returned to Los Angeles to play ACT. LOVESICK, co-creator of the tour. These wonderful guys are the second K-pop group I met after BTS and talked to them many times. However, after their performance at the Microsoft Theater, we were finally able to meet in person for a quick but very interesting interview, were also for this cute TikTok game.
Then, in August, fan songs started here on the account . Like I said, I can't wait to see where the column goes in the new year, but in the meantime, a big thank you to everyone who reads this column or any of the sections below.
2022 has been a bittersweet year for K-pop fans. Thank you for contacting me.
