Jin Becomes First Member Of KPop Supergroup BTS To Enlist For Mandatory Military Service
SEOUL - Jin, a member of the South Korean superstar K-pop group BTS, shaved his head and joined the army. At the age of 30, Jean is the dean of the group, having given up his pop career to do military service at the front.
A large purple banner hung near the entrance of the Yeoncheon County Military Training Center on Tuesday, welcoming "Jeans and all enlisted men" as they register for duty.
When BTS announced in June that they would be suspending their tour dates , the group's entertainment company Hybe's stock price dropped nearly 25% in one day.
A photo posted on the group's Twitter account shows Jin stopping the military hum of the New Testament, laughing with his BTS teammates. The accompanying message read: "Brothers! Come back safe and sound! I love you."
Questions have been raised for years about whether BTS youth should register under South Korean law, from the male requirement to the group's immense cultural contribution and earning potential, sparking debate both internationally and nationally. South Korea in the world - needs to be updated.
After a strong rebuke from the government for giving a license to the group - especially from former military personnel - the Department of Defense decided in 2019 that the boys of BTS should really serve.
Most able-bodied men in Korea must serve in the military for 18 months.

She has now completed her second census and has taken her singing career on the road.
But the boy band members have no guarantee that military-backed careers will await them upon their return. In the world of pop and popular culture, 18 months is a long time. Staying out of the public eye for so long — especially for a group like BTS, whose age gap means their breaks will be even for years to come — can wear off even the most passionate fans.
And BTS probably has the most passionate fan base in the world, or at least on the internet. "Army," as they ironically call themselves, responded to the group's tweet on Tuesday by expressing regret, crying and vowing to stay true to their K-pop heroes.
"We will wait for Yoo Jin, we love you," wrote a fan with the username Mia. Others posted a short video of a woman kneeling in tears with the word "Soldier" over an overlay of Jeanne driving her to the recruiting center.
At this point, it is widely believed that BTS will attempt to reunite in at least 2025, when all members have completed their mandatory military service.
In a daily report, a Defense Ministry official sought to reassure worried fans about Jin's safety, saying around 300 security guards had been dispatched to help control the crowd that had gathered at the venue.
The troop, made up of members of the South Korean military (real military, not BTS fans), local police and firefighters "worked together to prevent safety accidents".
Starting Tuesday, Jean will attend five weeks of training. Although not confirmed by the military, it is known that he will later be assigned to a frontline unit near North Korea's tense border.
