Then the nightmare began. First try a south korean fan app should be a priority. It doesn't. Attempts to purchase tickets through the official Live Nation Entertainment and CityLine platforms were also unsuccessful.

"A message on Citiline's website said I confirmed the ticket, but hung up before saying the deal was incomplete," he said, adding that he could not be contacted by phone or email.

Tickets sold out within two hours. Manisha's days spent buying tickets for her daughter and member "Blinks" - the band's official fan name - are lost.

"My baby was crying and it was going crazy," says the single mother who runs her own clothing company. "I worked hard and took the time to buy tickets."

In desperation, Manisha turned to an online seller. "They wanted 6,500 (US$830) for a HK$1,899 denomination card - that's daylight robbery. I was furious."

Speculators inevitably appear at times like these, turning fans' dreams of seeing their idols into financial nightmares.

Last week, Skull Scandals reportedly sold Blackpink tickets for HK$15,000, 22 times the original price.

Media reports also indicated that resellers of used StubHub tickets were selling them for between HK$3,338 and HK$116,827 ($15,000), while Viagogo tickets listed on January 15 show up to HK$102,222.

Blackpink's ticket makers have been busy in the region, reporting price hikes in Malaysia and Singapore.

In Taiwan, four cards originally priced at $276 each sold for $12,576 — more than 45 times their original price, Taiwan News reported. In response, Live Nation, the organizer of the world tour there, canceled the ticket.

This is a booming time for scammers. Last week, two Blackpink fans in Hong Kong lost 17,000 Hong Kong dollars (2,200 USD) in an online scam.

Hong Kong police urged fans to only purchase tickets through official channels. "In one week, police received reports of online scams involving [Blackpink] concert tickets," said the CyberDefender anti-fraud Facebook page.

Earlier this year, Hong Kong Superband Mirror tickets were HK$1,280 and HK$480 to HK$440,000 (US$56,000), advising fans to "not eat for heads."
